Scientific Seminar: Intelligent and Safe Roads – From Risk Analysis to Traffic Prediction (27 October 2026)

The Road and Bridge Research Institute (IBDiM, Poland) invites researchers, practitioners, public authorities, and industry representatives to attend the scientific seminar Intelligent and Safe Roads: From Risk Analysis to Traffic Prediction, taking place online via Microsoft Teams on 27 October 2026 (10-11:30 CET).

The seminar will explore current challenges and developments in road safety and intelligent transport systems, highlighting how advanced analytical methods can support decision-making in road transport. By bringing together scientific research and engineering practice, the event will provide an opportunity to exchange knowledge on approaches to risk assessment, road accident cost estimation, and short-term traffic prediction.

The programme will open with an introduction by Dr. Marcin Świtała of IBDiM, followed by two technical presentations. Dr. Filip Janowiec, from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Transport at Cracow University of Technology, will present Bayesian Networks in Road Engineering: From Risk Modelling to the Estimation of Road Accident Costs. The second presentation, delivered by Dr. Katarzyna Marczuk of ALEET, will focus on Methodology for Short-Term Traffic Condition Prediction for Dynamic Vehicle Routing Algorithms in Intelligent Transport Systems. A discussion and question-and-answer session will conclude the seminar.

These contributions will address complementary aspects of safer and more efficient road transport, from modelling risks and estimating the economic consequences of accidents to anticipating traffic conditions for dynamic vehicle routing. Together, they highlight the role of data-driven methods and analytical tools in supporting road safety assessment and intelligent transport management.

Researchers and professionals interested in road safety, transport engineering, risk modelling, and intelligent transport systems are encouraged to attend.
